SUMMARY:Christian Blackshaw MBE\, piano
DESCRIPTION:After winning gold medals at Royal College Manchester and Royal Academy in London\, Christian Blackshaw MBE was the first British pianist to study at the Leningrad Conservatoire. He later worked closely with Sir Clifford Curzon in London. \nHe has performed with leading orchestras including London Philharmonic\, Academy of St Martin in the Fields\, St Petersburg Philharmonic\, Moscow Philharmonic\, Mariinsky Orchestra\, New York Philharmonic\, San Francisco Symphony\, and Rotterdam Philharmonic. He has worked with illustrious conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle\, Valery Gergiev\, Gianandrea Noseda\, and Sir Neville Marriner. In May 2016 he completed his sold out debut recital tour in China\, including appearances at the National Centre for the Performing Arts\, Beijing and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall. \nHis hugely acclaimed “Complete Mozart Sonata Series” at Wigmore Hall has been issued in 4 volumes\, with critics describing these “landmark” recordings as “captivating”\, “magical”\, and “masterful”. The last volume was named as one of the Best Classical Recordings of 2015 in the New York Times. \nChristian will bring this captivating magic to us with a scintillating Mozart-Schumann program including Sonatas No. 8 in B-flat Major\, K333 (Linz)\, No. 8 in A minor\, K310\, and Schumann’s Fantasie in C Major\, Op. 17. \n

He made his Lincoln Center solo debut with the Juilliard Orchestra. \n Wonny Song\, piano is artistic & executive director of Orford Music (Quebec) and Mooredale Concerts. The Dorian made history as the first wind quintet to appear at Carnegie Hall. Their members are: Gretchen Pusch\, flute\, Gerard Reuter\, oboe\, Benjamin Fingland\, clarinet\, Adrian Morejon\, bassoon\, Karl Kramer-Johansen\, horn \nSince its formation at Tanglewood in 1961\, the Quintet has collaborated with numerous well-known artists\, commissioned nearly 40 new works of wind chamber music\, and held residencies at some of the world’s most prestigious music festivals and educational institutions. Former violinist of the St. Lawrence String Quartet\, Scott St. John made his Carnegie debut in 1988 after winning first prize in the Alexander Schneider Competition. His solo appearances include the Boston Pops\, the Utah Symphony\, and Toronto Symphony. \nViolist Sharon Wei has won numerous prizes including top honours at the London Music Competition and the Washington International Competition. Sharon has appeared as soloist with orchestras throughout North America. Cellist Thomas Wiebe has performed as guest artist with the Juilliard Orchestra at Lincoln Center as well as the Winnipeg Symphony. He is a member of the Duke Trio. \nRebelheart’s members are Professors of Music at University of Toronto (Erika) and The University of Western Ontario. Violinists Jonathan Crow and Andrew Wan are concertmasters of the Toronto and Montreal Symphony Orchestras\, Eric Nowlin\, principal viola at the Detroit Symphony\, and Brian Manker is principal cello with MSO. They formed in 2009\, following the footsteps of the original Orford Quartet\, Canada’s internationally admired ensemble. \nTheir concept – to bring four elite orchestral leaders together on a regular basis over many years to perform chamber music at the highest level – has resulted in a quartet that maintains a remarkably fresh and virtuosic perspective. While they tour major North American cities\, the players also feel strongly about bringing their performances to small rural towns\, and performing works by Canadian composers. \nThey will perform Hétu’s Scherzo\, for String Quartet\, Op. 54 and Brahms’ String Quartet in A minor\, Op. 51\, No. 2. With Adrian Fung\, cello they will perform Schubert’s final and beloved chamber work String Quintet in C Major\, D. 956\, Op. In Mo also won the awards for youngest finalist\, best performance of a contemporary original piece\, and performance most appreciated by the audience. \nMaking his Carnegie Hall debut April 2016\, he has garnered other coveted prizes – a first at the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition and a second at the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition. Upcoming solo appearances include a special recital in Genoa\, Italy\, using Paganini’s own Guarneri del Gesu violin. DESCRIPTION:The dynamic and charismatic Heath Quartet is considered one of the most exciting British chamber ensembles of the moment. In 2013\, it became the first ensemble in fifteen years to win the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artists Award. Formed in 2002 at the Royal Northern College of Music\, the ensemble was awarded a Borletti-Buitoni Special Ensemble Scholarship and in 2012 won Ensemble Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. \nNotable performances have included a complete Beethoven Cycle at the Kilkenny Arts Festival\, the world premiere of a Sir John Tavener work at the BBC Proms\, concerts at the Beethovenfest Bonn and debuts at the Musée d’Orsay and Louvre Auditorium (Paris)\, as well as New York City’s Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. \nThe quartet has worked with many talented collaborators including Ian Bostridge\, Adrian Brendel\, Michael Collins\, Stephen Hough\, Sunwook Kim\, Richard Lester\, Joanna MacGregor\, and the Tokyo Quartet. The Heath Quartet members are professors of chamber music at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. DESCRIPTION:Hailed for his beautiful musicality\, glittering virtuosity\, and highly individual approach\, Stephen Prutsman is considered one of the finest American pianists of his generation. Active as an orchestra soloist\, recitalist\, chamber musician\, composer\, arranger\, and conductor\, he has been acclaimed for his artistry and versatility by critics and audiences around the world. He studied with Leon Fleisher at the Peabody Conservatory\, and is a silver medalist of the Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition\, and winner of an Avery Fisher Career Grant. \nStephen has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, the Minnesota Orchestra\, and the Belgian National\, Royal Scottish National\, and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestras. As a chamber musician he performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and with the St. Lawrence\, Juilliard\, Brentano\, and Kronos String Quartets\, the latter having also recorded his compositions. As well\, Stephen is an accomplished professional jazz pianist. His discography includes over thirty CDs. He will spellbind us with his inventive program based on J.S.
