SUMMARY:New Orford String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Violinists Jonathan Crow and Andrew Wan are concertmasters of the Toronto and Montreal Symphony Orchestras\, Brian Manker is principal cello in Montreal and Eric Nowlin\, principal viola at the Detroit Symphony. They formed in 2009\, following the footsteps of the original Orford Quartet\, Canada’s internationally admired ensemble. \nTheir concept – to bring four elite orchestral leaders together on a regular basis over many years to perform chamber music at the highest level – has resulted in a quartet that maintains a remarkably fresh and virtuosic perspective. While they tour major North American cities\, the players also feel strongly about bringing their performances to small rural towns\, and performing works by Canadian composers. They are 2017 JUNO winners for best classical album. \nThey will perform a spectacular all-Beethoven program – String quartets No. 10 in E-flat Major\, Op. 74 “Harp”\, No. 4 in C minor\, Op. 18\, No. 4\, and No. 14 in C# minor\, Op. 131. \n“…unfailingly lean\, silvery beauty…showed a mastery that cooled Brahms’ anguish just a little and took some of the bluntness off the Beethoven.” -Chicago Tribune \n “…nothing short of electrifying…These four string virtuosos animate every note with uncommon power and passion as well as elegance. Listen and weep.” -The Star \nWe acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. Nous remercions le Conseil des arts du Canada de son soutien. \n

SUMMARY:Dorian Wind Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Recognized by critics\, audiences\, and professional musicians alike for its uniquely polished and passionate performances\, Dorian Wind Quintet is known worldwide as one of chamber music’s preeminent and longest continuously-active ensembles. The Quintet has literally been around the world – concertizing in the United States and Canada\, touring Europe eighteen times\, and playing throughout the Middle East\, India\, Africa and Asia. The Dorian made history as the first wind quintet to appear at Carnegie Hall. Their members are: Gretchen Pusch\, flute\, Gerard Reuter\, oboe\, Benjamin Fingland\, clarinet\, Adrian Morejon\, bassoon\, Karl Kramer-Johansen\, horn \nSince its formation at Tanglewood in 1961\, the Quintet has collaborated with numerous well-known artists\, commissioned nearly 40 new works of wind chamber music\, and held residencies at some of the world’s most prestigious music festivals and educational institutions. The members of the Dorian Wind Quintet are each associated with other prominent performing ensembles\, venues\, and musical institutions\, and have united in the group out of their passion for the wind chamber music repertoire. \nThey will perform an epic chronological programme that begins with the 15th Century and ends with the NOW: Renaissance Suite (transcribed by R. Roseman/works by Heinrich Issac & others)\, three wind/piano duos by Fauré\, homage to Pulitzer prize winning works (Samuel Barber – Summer Music and George Perle – Wind Quintet No. 4 (1984)) and Canadian premiere of a commissioned new work by Amanda Harberg. \n“Breathtaking” The London Times \n “One of chamber music’s most sparkling and eloquent ensembles” TIME Magazine \n
