SUMMARY:Music & Truffles KIDS - New Orford String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:THE SHOW: New Orford String Quartet return to play “Under Pressure” and music by Beethoven. \nViolinists Jonathan Crow and Andrew Wan are concertmasters of the Toronto and Montreal Symphony Orchestras\, Brian Manker is principal cello in Montreal and Eric Nowlin\, principal viola at the Detroit Symphony. They formed in 2009\, following the footsteps of the original Orford Quartet\, Canada’s internationally admired ensemble. \nTheir concept – to bring four elite orchestral leaders together on a regular basis over many years to perform chamber music at the highest level – has resulted in a quartet that maintains a remarkably fresh and virtuosic perspective. While they tour major North American cities\, the players also feel strongly about bringing their performances to small rural towns\, and performing works by Canadian composers. They are 2017 JUNO winners for best classical album. \nThey will perform excerpts from their all-Beethoven program plus some more familiar strains! \n“…nothing short of electrifying…These four string virtuosos animate every note with uncommon power and passion as well as elegance. Listen and weep.” -The Star \nWe acknowledge the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. Nous remercions le Conseil des arts du Canada de son soutien. \n

SUMMARY:Music & Truffles - Forestare Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:THE SHOW: What do you call a dozen guitars plus two double bass? – The Forestare Ensemble from Québec. They will play Baroque classics of J.B. Lully\, Antonio Vivaldi\, and J.S. Bach. Hosted by Joanna. \nSince its 2002 inception\, the ensemble has participated in the creation of 50 original works and has adapted nearly another 100 for its unique orchestral configuration. As a result\, they have created the largest repertoire of music for guitar orchestra in the world. \nTheir 2007 self-titled CD garnered a Félix in the category “Instrumental Album of the Year” and they toured their environmental concert “De l’arbre à la guitare” throughout Canada\, France\, and Chile\, performing where possible outdoors and in forests. Their second critically acclaimed CD\, Arauco\, received nominations for both a Félix and a Prix Opus. September 2016\, they released their third CD\, Baroque\, featuring arrangements of this repertoire for guitar orchestra\, thereby melding the exuberant music of the old masters into a new and fresh\, yet familiar sound. \n“Forestare has managed to create a sound that is distinct…The effect created by this mass of guitars…is quite simply striking.” La Presse \n
